Background
The customer's workflow involves copying quotes to reuse structure and content. During this process, the copied quote is automatically routed to an approver determined by the active approval rules (based on value, discount, category, or quote owner's manager). In some cases, the auto-assigned approver is not the correct one for that specific quote. The customer discovers this after copying and must either manually edit the approver post-copy or recreate the entire quote from scratch to get the right approver assigned upfront.
What Was Investigated
Updating the approval rules in Settings > Quotes > Approval Rules was explored as a workaround, but this would change the routing for all future quotes, not just the current one. Verifying the quote owner's assigned manager was also suggested, but does not address cases where a specific quote needs to route to a different approver outside the standard rule-based logic.
The Gap
The quote copy interface does not expose an approver field. While approvers can be manually selected when creating a new quote from scratch, they cannot be selected or overridden during the copy quote workflow. This creates an asymmetry in the UI and forces extra work when a copied quote needs a non-standard approver assignment.
Requested Feature
Add an approver selection field to the copy quote interface:
Display the currently auto-assigned approver based on active rules
Allow manual selection or override of the approver during the copy operation
Apply the manually selected approver to the copied quote, bypassing rule-based assignment for that instance
Maintain consistency with the approver selection behavior available on new quote creation
Why This Matters
This is a quality-of-life improvement that removes friction from a common workflow. Users currently face a choice between accepting an incorrect approver or duplicating effort. As the customer noted, they can already change the approver on a new quote, so providing the same capability during copy is a logical extension of existing functionality. Teams managing complex approval scenarios or handling quotes with non-standard routing needs are most affected.
Proposed Priority
Medium. The workaround (manual edit post-copy or rule adjustment) is available and the feature does not block core functionality, but it increases user friction on a frequent operation. The request reflects a legitimate workflow gap that multiple users are likely to encounter.
