Quotes: support quoting to your own MSP company (internal purchases and approvals)
Description:
We want to use the same Salesbuildr quote flow for internal purchases as we use for customers. When we buy something for our own company, we create an opportunity in our PSA under our own company, build a quote in Salesbuildr, send it to our management or executive team for approval, and our purchasing team orders from the approved quote.
Today this does not work reliably for the company linked as the MSP:
- Opportunities and quotes for the MSP company are disabled by default. The MSP company does not show up when creating an opportunity or quote, and has no Opportunities or Quotes tab.
- Changing the company type from MSP to Customer as a workaround breaks access to the platform.
- Opportunities created under our own company in the PSA (Autotask, ConnectWise) are not imported, or fail on import with a contact error.
- Contacts on the MSP company are not imported or are marked inactive on sync, because the same people also exist as resources/users under a different PSA ID. Quotes then fail to sync back with errors like "contact not found".
- A contact who is also a Salesbuildr user cannot be selected as the quote recipient.
Use case:
- Internal hardware, software and project purchases that need management approval before ordering.
- Quotes made out to our own company, for example when donating a service to a charity.
Current workaround:
Create a separate dummy company or duplicate contacts for internal quotes. This splits internal purchase history across two places and makes it hard to find previous internal purchases.
What should happen:
- The MSP company can be used for opportunities and quotes like any other company.
- PSA opportunities under the MSP company import correctly, including the opportunity contact.
- Employees can be used as quote recipients and approvers on these quotes, even if they are also users or resources.
- Quotes for the MSP company sync back to the PSA without contact errors.
